A Joyful Noise – Klezmer Performance and Exhibit Reception
Saturday, January 31 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Rescheduled from January 24. All tickets from the postponed event will be honored on January 31.
7:00 PM-8:00 PM: Reception for “A Joyful Noise: Photographs of Klezmer Musicians” By Lloyd Wolf
8:00 PM-9:00 PM: Live klezmer performed by Mrs. Toretsky’s Nightmare!
Celebrate the culmination of the exhibition “A Joyful Noise: Photographs of Klezmer Musicians,” an exhibition depicting historic and up-to-the minute klezmer musicians. For over thirty years, internationally-recognized award-winning photographer Lloyd Wolf has documented the musicians of this uniquely Jewish art form. No other photographic archive of this significant world music has existed – until now.
These photographs sizzle with energy, capturing the soul and sound of the performers in visual form. After a joyful reception, be wowed by the local klezmer group Mrs. Toretsky’s Nightmare! This band fills the air with the celebratory, dance-inducing music of Eastern European Jews, from melodies unearthed in long-lost archives to complex tunes penned by today’s hottest young klezmer composers.
The band’s appearances have ranged from weddings, porch fests, folk festivals, and a judge investiture to Hanukkah parties for Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff.
