The War on Drugs: Dealing with Illicit Drug Imports (Virtual)

Thursday, August 29 @ 2:00 pm 3:00 pm

Featuring Larry Schwartz, Retired Economist and Statistician.

In the 1960s, illicit drug imports included marijuana and heroin. But starting in 2018 illicit fentanyl imports came on the scene. Learn about the constraints to examine all import flows for detecting illegal drugs. Gain an appreciation for how Intelligence is used to define suspected illicit drug imports. Finally, learn firsthand from Mr. Schwartz, about the U.S. Treasury Department’s 1967-69 experiments to discover what the actual illicit drug imports were. This work led to “The War on Drugs” since 1971 — a cause taken up by First Lady Nancy Reagan.

Fee: Complimentary for all.
