Session Begins – Yiddish Level 1 – Fall (Virtual)
Thursday, September 18 @ 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm
Thursdays, September 18-December 18 (12 classes; no class Oct. 2, Nov. 27)
Instructor: Norman Buder
Ages: 18+
Advanced beginners and those with some prior knowledge are welcome to join this ongoing course. Students must be comfortable with the Hebrew alphabet to learn the rudiments of reading. (Yiddish is phonetic and much easier than Hebrew.)
Participants will study classic Yiddish stories to learn a significant amount of vocabulary, useful phrases, how to ask essential questions, and how to read Yiddish. Jokes, proverbs, songs, and even a few curse words will be included; however, this is not a conversational Yiddish course. Discover this hybrid language used by our ancestors, which has gained popularity today.
Students will need to log into Zoom on a device each week. All materials will be provided via email, in both Hebrew and transliteration.
Fee: $132 Members/$152 Non-members
