Jews Rock! A Tradition in Stone
Sunday, July 19 @ 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Featuring Greg Goldner, Stone Sculptor/Carver/Mason
This presentation will explore the intimate connection between stone as a material and the Jewish people. This two-hour class will consist of two parts.
Part one is an oral presentation that includes a survey of stone in the Torah (passages from the Tanakh, Oral Torah and the words of sages) and the land of Israel (covering etymology and geological aspects).
Part two is a demonstration of how stone was and is carved, as seen in the techniques used to carve a typical Hebrew letter. This part of the class will include a hands-on section in which attendees can try light stone carving! (Safety goggles must be worn.)
Join us for an enlightening and educational afternoon using stone to connect us to our ancestors and heritage!
