Artistry Comes to Life at the Pozez JCC

For decades, the Pozez JCC has been a vibrant home for the arts, celebrating the breadth and depth of Jewish culture, identity, creativity, diversity, and resiliency through visual art, film, music, theater, and literary arts. From the Bodzin Art Gallery—presenting 7–10 annual exhibitions and showcasing artists working in painting, photography, jewelry, ceramics, glass, fiber, crafts, and mixed media—to the ReelAbilities Film Festival: Northern Virginia, memoir writing classes, and the Makheylah JCC Community Choir, the J offers meaningful opportunities to connect through the arts.

The Bodzin Art Gallery supports and encourages the development of local Jewish artists, artists with disabilities, artists exploring themes reflecting Jewish values, and Israeli art. Through its support of local Jewish artists, artists with disabilities, artists exploring Jewish themes, and Israeli art, the J has built a reputation as a respected cultural destination for artists, art enthusiasts, buyers, and sellers throughout the region.

Calling all artists! Apply for The J’s Open Exhibition.

The J is seeking art made by our commUNITY (members, staff, and guests) to display during our Annual Open Exhibition in the Bodzin Art Gallery. Artists working in in an array of media, including photography, ceramics, painting, paper arts, jewelry, fiber, and more are encouraged to submit their work.

Tracing Children's Thinking: Stories of Inquiry, Expression, and Belonging by ECLC

July 14 - August 21, 2026

Tracing Children's Thinking: Stories of Inquiry, Expression, and Belonging celebrates the many ways young children make meaning of their world. Through inquiry, play, relationships, creativity, and collaboration, each classroom journey reveals the richness of children's ideas and the unique paths they take as learners.

From infants exploring through their senses to older children investigating identity, community, sound, storytelling, and nature, this exhibit highlights the visible traces of learning that emerge when children's thinking is honored, documented, and shared. Together, these stories invite us to see children as capable researchers, creators, and community builders who continually shape their understanding of themselves and the world around them.

Sacred and Ordinary… Joyful works from Jewish Tradition and Everyday Life By Julie Wohl

August 31-October 19, 2026

Through 50 original works–mixed media, painting, digital illustration and soft sculpture, Julie Wohl presents a vision of living Jewish life out loud–connecting sacred imagery, Jewish text and song, and ritual with contemporary depictions of ancient ideas. Amongst the refrains: Shabbat dinner landscapes, trees of life, holy mothers, protective spirits, lonely scapegoats, hamsas, pomegranates, musical instruments and more. These motifs showcase the inner life and musings of the artist grappling with 2,000 years of history and culture.

With a career as an educator, storyteller and artist that spans over 20 years, Julie returns again and again, with fresh eyes and new materials, to the themes of joyful, lived Judaism and the beauty found in everyday life.

Julie Wohl is the Director of Congregational Learning at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation and the founder of “The Studio” a Jewish text-based community art studio. She received her master’s degree in Jewish education from the Jewish Theological Seminary and has worked in a variety of synagogue, communal, and camp settings. She is the author of “Make, Create, Celebrate! Jewish Holidays Through Art”, the co-author and illustrator of “Siddur Mah Tov: a Family Shabbat Prayer Book” and the illustrator of “Simply Seder: a Family Haggadah”, all published by Behrman House. Julie lives in Baltimore with her husband, two children, and their cat named Rainbow.

MAKHEYLAH: JCC COMMUNITY CHOIR

The Makheylah JCC Community Choir welcomes singers of all backgrounds and experience levels. Through Jewish and secular choral music, participants build friendships, express creativity, and strengthen community while preparing for seasonal performances throughout the year.
