The Arts

Artistry Comes to Life at the Pozez JCC

Through the decades, the J’s Bodzin Art Gallery exhibitions have attracted talented artists working in a wide variety of media including painting, photography, jewelry, ceramics, glass, fiber, crafts, and mixed media. The gallery supports and encourages the development of local Jewish artists, artists with disabilities, artists working in themes reflecting Jewish values, and Israeli art. The Bodzin Art Gallery presents 7-10 annual exhibitions. The J’s dedication to exhibiting fine art for almost 30 years has garnered a reputation that is well-respected amongst artists, art enthusiasts, buyers, and sellers.

Psalm and Celebration
by Holly Markhoff

May 11 - June 26, 2026

Psalm and Celebration is a commentary about the gift of resilience and responsibility to move forward during or following times of loss and challenge. This collection began to emerge in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and further developed following national and international tensions and tragedies, including those in Israel beginning on October 7, 2023. Through the loss and sadness within and around, I found direction and strength in the understanding that life must be celebrated, although it will always coincide with our own, or another’s pain. Celebrations are joyful, but humble in a world of broken glass. Within despair and grief, we pause to light Shabbat candles. On Simchat Torah, we hold hands and we dance.

Psalm and Celebration
by Holly Markhoff

Holly Berger Markhoff is a contemporary mixed media artist known for her figurative and expressive paintings. Influenced by the elongated figures of Modigliani, and the gilding of Klimt, her work incorporates sculptural elements as paints are built up between layers of glaze, creating a glass-like translucence. Born in New York City, Holly grew up outside of Washington DC. She currently lives in Richmond, Virginia and has a studio in her home and in the city's Museum District. Holly’s work can be found in gallery representations, private, non-profit, corporate and museum collections, as well as staged in the 2021, Hulu Mini Series, Dopesick.
