First Session – Yiddish Level 1 Spring/Summer
Thursday, April 24 @ 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm
Beginners and those with a little knowledge may join this ongoing course. Students must be comfortable with the Hebrew alphabet to learn the rudiments of reading. (Yiddish is phonetic and much easier than Hebrew). We will study a primary-grade Yiddish book and converse about it in Yiddish as well as other stories. We’ll also learn a great deal of vocabulary and useful phrases and how to ask important questions. Jokes, proverbs, songs, and even a few curse words will be included.
Students will need to log into Zoom on a device each week. All materials will be provided via email, in Hebrew as well as in transliteration. Learn this hybrid language used by our ancestors, that has become quite popular today!
Thursdays, April 24-July 3 (10 weeks, no class June 19)
