Horizon Day Camp

More than a Camp…it’s a Family

Partnering with Sunrise Association, Horizon Day Camp – Metro DC is the only camp of its kind in the area serving families who are battling pediatric cancer. Whether your child/children are able to attend camp for one day or the whole summer, each day is a new beginning and a fun day for every camper! We are thrilled to work with our affiliates Children’s National Hospital, Inova L. J. Murphy Children’s Hospital, and other area pediatric medical institutions.

About Horizon

Horizon Day Camp-Metro DC brings the simple pleasures of childhood back to children struggling with cancer, changing months of loneliness and isolation into 6 weeks of summers filled with sunshine, laughter and happiness.

Recognizing the extraordinary financial demands that a child's chronic illness can have on a family, Horizon Day Camps and Year-Round Programs are always provided free of charge to the families and exist ONLY through the generosity of others.

Horizon Day Camp Helps Siblings Bond

Horizon Day Camp-Metro DC is full-summer day camp for children with cancer, and their siblings, ages 3 1/2 – 16, who are in active or follow-up treatment for cancer. Unlike most oncology sleep-away camps that are offered for 1-2 weeks each summer, Horizon Day Camp-Metro DC allows children to attend camp as often as they can. The shared experience of being at camp together for summer fun helps siblings forget about treatment and enjoy laughing together again.

A REWARDING SUMMER

What do the staff say about being a counselor at Horizon Day Camp? Here's what Nor P. had to say:

"I just wanted to say thank you for the experience that you guys made possible over the summer. When I went back to school, all my teachers asked the class if they did anything fun over the summer. My classmates talked about their trips to Florida, going to theme parks, and sleeping in a lot. That all sounded like great summers, but it was nothing compared to mine. I remember raising my hand proudly and saying to my class that I got to work at Horizon Day Camp, knowing for sure that I had the most enjoyable and memorable summer. I just wanted to say all this because I realize how much I miss camp!"
