Zochrim: Community Commemoration for Yom Ha’Zikaron
Thursday, May 16 @ 7:00 pm
Yom Ha’Zikaron, Israel’s Memorial Day, carries a heavier weight this year as we grapple with the loss of countless individuals and the pain felt by their families. It’s a solemn occasion to honor their memory, acknowledge the grief of those left behind, and find solace in our collective mourning. We invite the community to join us for a communal commemoration ceremony, where we can come together to remember the fallen, express gratitude for their sacrifice, and seek hope amidst the sorrow. All events happening this evening are a combined effort of many Northern Virginia Jewish organizations. You can choose to come to the Ceremony at the J or join your local watch parties to connect with people in the community nearby (list will be updated below).
Events Schedule:
7:00-8:15 pm – The ceremony at the J will be broadcast to the watch parties.
8:30-9:30 pm – Break out groups for smaller discussions at the J and the hosting congregations.
Following the commemoration, we will gather in smaller groups for a more intimate gathering, providing an opportunity to express our pain and unite as a community through “singing in their memory.” This will allow us to honor the fallen by sharing songs written by those who are no longer with us, fostering connection and remembrance through music.
The Pozez JCC of Northern Virginia initiated this series of events in partnership with The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, Friends of the IDF, JCRC, Gesher Jewish Day School, The Israel Embassy to the United States, Temple Rodef Shalom, Congregation Etz Hayim, Congregation Sha’are Shalom, and Beth El Hebrew Congregation.
Proudly supported by the Israel Engagement Fund: A JCC Association of North America Program Accelerator and the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs.
