Thursdays, July 9-August 27 (8 classes)
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
Instructor: Norman Buder
Ages: 18+
Advanced beginners and those with some prior knowledge are welcome to join this ongoing course. Students must be comfortable with the Hebrew alphabet to learn the rudiments of reading. (Yiddish is phonetic and much easier than Hebrew.)
Participants will study classic Yiddish stories to learn a significant amount of vocabulary, useful phrases, how to ask essential questions, and how to read Yiddish. Jokes, proverbs, songs, and even a few curse words will be included; however, this is not a conversational Yiddish course. Discover this hybrid language used by our ancestors, which has gained popularity today.
All materials will be provided via email, in both Hebrew and transliteration.
Minimum number of students 6; maximum 12.
Fee: $115 JCC Members/ $125 Non-members
