Commemorating October 7th

Marking a year since October 7th b’yachad (together)

It has been twelve months since the atrocities of the October 7th terrorist attack in Israel. As a people, we have been relieved by each hostage returned to their family while continuing to pray for the swift and safe return of those still being held in captivity and for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

Following the unfathomable events of October 7th, 2023, the Jewish community in Northern Virginia came together as one for a vigil to strengthen our souls and in solidarity with Israel. To commemorate the day our world was forever changed, Northern Virginia Jewish organizations are planning several opportunities for us to gather in ways that are meaningful and supportive. Choose the program or programs that will most help you to heal and find hope for a better tomorrow. Opportunities include prayer, storytelling by survivors through music and arts, a film screening, and more.

It has been a difficult year. Let’s come together to support each other and to show solidarity with Israel and the families who have been impacted.

Join us in hope and healing at these events:

Monday, October 21, 7PM, JCC & Leesburg

Cards and Clothes for a Cause

Join us for meaningful and impactful events at the Pozez JCC in Fairfax and Congregation Shaare Shalom in Leesburg to support Israeli families in need as Israel continues to feel the ongoing impact of the trauma of October 7. We are hosting packing parties to sort and pack brand new children’s and teens’ clothing (with tags intact) for shipment to Israel through Yad Leah, an organization dedicated to providing essential clothing to those in need.

Resilience and Hope: An Evening of Art and Storytelling

October 7th, 2023 as marked on the Jewish calendar, is commemorated two days after Sukkot, on the 27th day of Tishrei. This evening is designed to encourage conversations about resilience and hope through an artistic lens. The program will explore Israel’s post October 7th reality through varied art forms, helping to examine the consciousness of October 7th in a different way. Participants will be invited to experience several creative spaces to listen to the personal stories of the artists and take a closer look at how life in Israel has changed over the year.
