How does the place we come from shape who we are? What happens when the community we grew up in begins to change? And how do different ways of living in Israel shape identity, family, belonging, and freedom?
Join us for a new Double Take Israel series exploring belonging in Israeli society through two iconic Israeli films and meaningful conversations before each screening.
Our first screening will feature “Operation Grandma” (97 minutes), a hilarious Israeli cult classic following three very different brothers racing against time to fulfill their grandmother’s last wish – to be buried in the kibbutz cemetery. Chaos, military culture, family dynamics, absurd bureaucracy, and classic Israeli improvisation collide in one unforgettable story.
Before the film, we’ll explore:
-The kibbutz as the great Israeli dream
-What happened to kibbutzim after the 1990s
-How those changes shaped the children who grew up there
-Why this film became such an iconic reflection of Israeli culture
Free admission. RSVP required. We hope that you will support the Shlichut program and Israel engagement programs here.
