The Pozez JCC is offering an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course for teens ages 15 and up who are interested in gaining lifesaving skills and preparing for employment in aquatic settings.
This class prepares participants to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies in both shallow water (under 7 feet) and deep water (7 feet or more).
Participants will learn professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services arrive. The course is taught in a blended learning format, meaning students must complete required online coursework (via mobile, tablet, or desktop) prior to each instructor-led session.
Students who successfully complete the course will receive an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate (including deep water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid, valid for 2 years.
Prerequisite testing is required before registration to confirm all participants meet American Red Cross requirements. Enrollment is limited to 8 students to ensure individualized instruction and hands-on learning.
Prerequisites include:
-Minimum age 15 years
-Swim 150 yards, tread water for 2 minutes using legs only, then swim 50 yards
-Complete a timed skills test retrieving a 10lbs object from 7–-12 feet and returning it to the starting point within 1 minute, 40 seconds
