The Jewish People and the French Revolution at Figaro’s Time – A Canto Vocal Program

Calling all opera fans and French history buffs! The beloved opera “The Marriage of Figaro” was considered both revolutionary and scandalous when it first opened in 1786. Composed by Mozart as a comedic opera, it exposes the seeds that led up to the French Revolution; the story depicts the growing dissatisfaction with the aristocracy in late 18th century France.
Enjoy a fascinating presentation on Jewish French culture by well-known Toulouse teacher Maurice Luggasy with musical accompaniment by Canto Vocal performers.
Attendees will have an opportunity to purchase discounted tickets to an evening performance, Concert of Love, on Sunday, July 21 @ 5pm, as well as two performances of “The Marriage of Figaro” on Saturday, August 3 @ 7pm & Sunday, August 4 @ 3pm in Northern Virginia.
