One Health and the Politics of COVID-19

Sunday, April 6 @ 3:00 pm 4:00 pm

Presented by Pozez JCC’s Distinguished Speaker Series and J-Talks

Featuring Dr. Laura H. Kahn, physician, policy researcher, educator, and author; interviewed by Pozez JCC member Jane Holmquist.

Join us for a conversation about the politics of COVID-19 as Dr. Kahn unpacks the mysteries of its origins to impart important lessons for future outbreaks. In her timely book, leading public health expert Laura H. Kahn uses the comprehensive “One Health” approach, which recognizes the interconnected links among the health of humans, animals, plants, and the environment, to investigate the COVID-19 pandemic. Kahn explores how the wild animal trade, wet markets, and camel industry contributed to the spread of earlier coronaviruses such as SARS-CoV-1 and MERS. The book also explores the biosafety, biosecurity, and bioethics implications of gain-of-function research on pandemic potential pathogens. Dr. Kahn will help us better understand the history, science, and geopolitics of the COVID-19 pandemic. There will be time for a Q&A, book sale, and signing.
