SUMMARY:JCC Community Choir/Makheylah (In-Person)
DESCRIPTION:If you like to sing and are interested in singing Jewish songs\, join the JCC Community Choir! This is a great opportunity to connect musically to the Jewish tradition. The choir is open to high schoolers\, college students\, and adults of all ages in Northern Virginia.  All singing abilities are welcome!  Our choir has something for everyone: experienced singers will receive advanced material\, singers with moderate choral or vocal background will be well-engaged\, and those who just hum a little will fit right in! \n\n\n\nOur repertoire ranges from secular to religious and includes synagogue music\, Yiddish theater\, folksongs\, and Israeli songs. We sing in various languages\, too: Hebrew\, English\, Yiddish\, Ladino\, and others. The session will include one or two short performances (tbd). Come – let’s sing! \n\n\n\nFees (include sheet music):  General Adult – $145; Active-Duty Military/Veterans – $120; Students: $90 \n\n\n\nDirector’s Bio: \n\n\n\nP’nina Plotkin McCabe has a bachelor in music from UCLA and a “Teudat Oman” (Artist Diploma) from the Rubin Academy of Music and Dance in Israel. Ms. McCabe led an adult choir at the JCC from 1990-1999 and then conducted a choir at Gesher from 2010-2019\, while her children attended school there. She enjoys discussing such issues as Aging Wisely\, Ethical and Moral Issues\, Using Our Strengths to Manage the Crazy World We Live In with senior adults who are motivated to learn and grow. SUMMARY:Pozez JCC & American Red Cross Blood Drive
DESCRIPTION:Pre-registered participants only. No walk-ins. \n\n\n\nThe Pozez JCC has hosted several blood drives to help our County replenish its critically low supply. Every day\, blood donors help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims\, heart surgery and organ transplant patients\, and those battling cancer. In fact\, every two seconds\, someone in the U.S. needs blood. It is likely that you or someone you know will need a blood transfusion in your lifetime. Last year\, drives hosted by the Pozez JCC collected 113 units of blood. Our goal this year is to collect more than 125 units of blood and you can help meet our goal! \n\n\n\nThe blood donation process from the time you arrive until the time you leave takes about an hour. The donation itself is only about 8-10 minutes on average. In order to qualify for whole blood donation\, you must be in good health and feeling well\, at least 16 years of age (with signed parental consent) and weigh at least 110 lbs. Additional eligibility criteria apply\, including certain medications\, medical conditions\, travel to certain countries\, and personal history.

DESCRIPTION:Dr. Hoffman participated in five space missions. In 1996\, on his last mission\, he carried a small Torah scroll on board the Space Shuttle Columbia. On Shabbat\, while orbiting Earth\, he read from the book of Genesis\, “In the beginning God created heaven and the earth.”  \n\n\n\nJoin Dr. Hoffman and Rachel Raz (Founder of the Space Torah Project and executive producer of the documentary\, Space Torah) for the screening of the 25-minute film and an interactive conversation. \n\n\n\nSpace Torah is a story about inspiration\, communities\, and a man’s journey. SUMMARY:JCC Adult Bereavement Support Group for Widows & Widowers (In-Person at the Pozez JCC)
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Sharon Alman\, MSW \n\n\n\nThis is a new monthly support group for anyone who has recently – or not-so-recently – lost a spouse or partner. Join us for an open\, frank forum on issues such as grief\, bereavement\, and moving forward after great loss. All are welcome.  \n\n\n\nFee:  No admission fee\, however\, registration is required.For more information/to register\, contact:  Shari.Berman@thej.org or 703.537.3068. \n\n\n\nAbout our Facilitator: \n\n\n\nSharon Alman is a licensed clinical social worker who had a private practice in Burke\, VA for 30 years. She retired in 2021 and found a new purpose in facilitating groups for Brandeis Women’s Learning Center and Retirement Communities. She enjoys discussing such issues as Aging Wisely\, Ethical and Moral Issues\, Using Our Strengths to Manage the Crazy World We Live In with senior adults who are motivated to learn and grow. Sharon was an original member of the NVJCC Board and is excited to be an active member of its diversified resources today.

SUMMARY:JCC Community Choir
DESCRIPTION:Led by P’nina Plotkin McCabe\, Choir Director \n\n\n\nDo you like to sing? Are you interested in singing Jewish songs? If so\, join the new JCC Community Choir forming this fall! This is a great opportunity to connect musically to the Jewish tradition. The choir is open to high schoolers\, college students\, and adults of all ages in Northern Virginia.  All singing abilities are welcome!  Our choir has something for everyone: experienced singers will receive advanced material\, singers with moderate choral or vocal background will be well-engaged\, and those who just hum a little will fit right in! Our repertoire will range from secular to religious and include synagogue music\, Yiddish theater\, folksongs\, and Israeli songs. We will sing in various languages\, too: Hebrew\, English\, Yiddish\, Ladino\, and others. The session will culminate in a short performance (tbd). Come – let’s sing! Questions?
