SUMMARY:JxJ Best of Fest - "The True Story of Tamara De Lempicka & the Art of Survival"
DESCRIPTION:The Pozez JCC\, in partnership with Edlavitch DCJCC\, is thrilled to present JxJ BEST OF FEST: Monthly Film Screenings at Cinema Arts Theatre in Fairfax! \n\n\n\nEnjoy 5 feature length and 6 short Jewish or Israeli films over a 6-month period here in our area! \n\n\n\n“The True Story of Tamara De Lempicka & the Art of Survival”Dir. Julie Rubio | 2024 | United States | 96 min.All women’s groups (Sisterhoods\, NCJW\, Hadassah\, Brandeis Women\, book clubs\, etc.) are invited to attend this matinee screening about an infamous Jewish female painter in Paris in the 1920s. \n\n\n\nA visually stunning and sweeping documentary that traces the life and survival of the renowned painter through her powerful paintings – from her rise to international stardom in 1920s Paris\, to her move to the United States in 1940\, fleeing the rise of fascism\, and her revival in the current art market. \n\n\n\nTamara de Lempicka was the preeminent Art Deco painter\, known for her high-gloss sensual nudes and portraits of high society during the Jazz Age. She was marginalized and gained notoriety for her romantic liaisons with her models and her indulgent\, decadent lifestyle\, but she was so much more. The film follows this remarkable émigrée as she reinvents herself multiple times\, looking behind the veneer of the publicity she generated for herself and examining the bisexual Jewish artist who embodied talent\, resilience\, passion\, and the relentless pursuit of artistic freedom. Told through her never-before-seen 8mm home movies and groundbreaking newly discovered birth and baptism certificates\, our film reveals her true name\, heritage\, and identity for the first time and will change art history. \n\n\n\nTickets: $15Tickets may be purchased at the Cinema Arts Box Office or online.

SUMMARY:JXJ BEST OF THE FEST - "Elie Wiesel: Soul on Fire"
DESCRIPTION:Location: Cinema Arts Theatre\, Fairfax\, VA \n\n\n\nThe Pozez JCC in Partnership with Edlavitch DCJCC is thrilled to present JxJ BEST OF THE FEST: Monthly Film Screenings at Cinema Arts Theatre! We kick off this series in September with the movie: “Elie Wiesel: Soul on Fire.” \n\n\n\nTold largely through his own words and eloquent voice\, this film seeks to penetrate to the heart of the known and unknown Elie Wiesel (1928-2016) – his passions\, his conflicts and his legacy as one of the most public survivors of the trauma of the Holocaust. This film sold out at the JxJ 2025 Film & Music Festival in May! \n\n\n\nELIE WIESEL: SOUL ON FIRE | Dir. Oren Rudavsky | 2024 | United States | 87 min“With his unforgettable and shattering 1958 memoir “Night\,” Elie Wiesel forever changed how the Holocaust would be written about. A survivor of Auschwitz and Buchenwald as a teenager\, the Romanian-born Wiesel became an international spokesperson and renowned author\, eloquently transforming his trauma into literature of the highest and most profound order. In this enthralling new documentary\, filmmaker Oren Rudavsky goes deeper into Wiesel’s philosophically abundant inner life\, depicted with nuance and tenderness\, and enriched by access to his archives. In many ways a private man despite being one of the most public voices of Holocaust remembrance\, Wiesel is presented here in newly intimate ways known only to his closest friends. ” ‘Elie Wiesel: Soul on Fire’ stands as a crucial testament to an extraordinary man who helped shape our collective memory of the darkest chapter of the 20th century.” New York Jewish Film FestivalTicket Price: $15Tickets can be purchased in-person or online at Cinema Arts Theatre:Questions?
