SUMMARY:J-Talks Presents: "First Family: George Washington’s Heirs and the Making of America"
DESCRIPTION:Featuring: Dr. Cassandra A. Good\, author and historianAges: 16+In celebration of President’s Day\, learn the fascinating and little-known story of the children George and Martha Washington raised. Dr. Good will share insights from her book which chronicles George Washington’s step-grandchildren\, the Custises\, all of whom lived in Northern Virginia and DC. \n\n\n\nThe Custis siblings achieved fame as the nation’s first “first family.” Their story – long overlooked – parallels America’s story in its first century: military triumph and tragedy; democracy and old aristocratic ties; visions of liberty alongside slavery. \n\n\n\nThe book was named a finalist for the 2024 George Washington Prize. Books will be available for sale at a discounted rate and for author signing. \n\n\n\nFee: Complimentary for all. Donations to JCC Adult Programming are appreciated.  \n\n\n\nAuthor’s Bio: Cassandra Good is Associate Professor of History at Marymount University. She received her PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and is the author of books\, articles\, and audio courses for both academic and public audiences. Her research has been supported by the Smithsonian Institution\, the National Endowment for the Humanities\, and the George Washington Library at Mount Vernon.

SUMMARY:The David Discovery – J-Talk with Author Eric Rozenman
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with the J-Men’s GroupAges: 18+ \n\n\n\nJoin us for an afternoon of history\, mystery\, and imagination as author Eric Rozenman discusses his new novel\, “The David Discovery: A Novel of the Near Future” (Academica Press\, 2025). Books will be available for purchase and signing. \n\n\n\nThe David Discovery spans centuries\, weaving together lives touched by faith\, power\, and prophecy. From the warrior “Sorceress” of 8th-century North Africa to an Ottoman advisor during Napoleon’s siege of Acre\, from a Holocaust survivor to a modern-day Cuban pop star—the threads of a royal bloodline endure. Hidden\, hunted\, and destined to resurface\, this lineage may hold the key to an ancient mystery as old as Jerusalem itself. \n\n\n\nAuthor’s Bio: Rozenman is a writer and commentator whose work bridges history\, politics\, and the Jewish experience. His articles have appeared in The Washington Post\, Los Angeles Times\, Times of Israel\, and other major outlets. He is also the author of “From Elvis to Trump: Eyewitness to the Unraveling” (2021) and “Jews Make the Best Demons” (2018)\, along with two earlier novels. \n\n\n\nFee: $0 Members/$15 Non-members
