DESCRIPTION:Share Shabbat with families from the Pozez J’s Growing Jewish Families program visiting different synagogue Tot Shabbats all around Northern Virginia. This month we are joining Tot Shabbat at Olam Tikvah in Fairfax. \n\n\n\n10am the room opens for free play with service starting at 11.  Enter though the door on the left and you will be directed to the tot Shabbat room where we will be waiting! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming; there is no dress code; and no shushing if your little one can’t sit still (they are free to move about). A GJF staff person will be there to welcome you. While Tot Shabbats are designed for toddlers and preschoolers\, the whole family is invited to attend. \n\n\n\n* All are welcome. Note that this is not held in the sanctuary or with the main service.  There is an option to join the full service after Tot Shabbat if anyone would like and the synagogue tries to time it so the kids are only there for the last few songs.

DESCRIPTION:Beginners and those with a little knowledge are welcome!  We will review the alphabet and learn the rudiments of reading (Yiddish is phonetic and much easier than Hebrew).  We will study a primary-grade Yiddish book and converse about it in Yiddish.  We’ll also learn to say useful phrases and how to ask important questions   Jokes\, proverbs\, songs\, and even a few curse words\, will not be ignored.  Study materials will be provided via email and Word documents\, in Hebrew letters as well as transliteration. SUMMARY:JCC Community Choir/Makheylah (In-Person)
DESCRIPTION:If you like to sing and are interested in singing Jewish songs\, join the JCC Community Choir! This is a great opportunity to connect musically to the Jewish tradition. The choir is open to high schoolers\, college students\, and adults of all ages in Northern Virginia.  All singing abilities are welcome!  Our choir has something for everyone: experienced singers will receive advanced material\, singers with moderate choral or vocal background will be well-engaged\, and those who just hum a little will fit right in! \n\n\n\nOur repertoire ranges from secular to religious and includes synagogue music\, Yiddish theater\, folksongs\, and Israeli songs. We sing in various languages\, too: Hebrew\, English\, Yiddish\, Ladino\, and others. The session will include one or two short performances (tbd). Come – let’s sing! \n\n\n\nFees (include sheet music):  General Adult – $145; Active-Duty Military/Veterans – $120; Students: $90 \n\n\n\nDirector’s Bio: \n\n\n\nP’nina Plotkin McCabe has a bachelor in music from UCLA and a “Teudat Oman” (Artist Diploma) from the Rubin Academy of Music and Dance in Israel. Ms. McCabe led an adult choir at the JCC from 1990-1999 and then conducted a choir at Gesher from 2010-2019\, while her children attended school there. DESCRIPTION:Beginners and those with a little knowledge are welcome!  We will review the alphabet and learn the rudiments of reading (Yiddish is phonetic and much easier than Hebrew).  We will study a primary-grade Yiddish book and converse about it in Yiddish.  We’ll also learn to say useful phrases and how to ask important questions   Jokes\, proverbs\, songs\, and even a few curse words\, will not be ignored.  Study materials will be provided via email and Word documents\, in Hebrew letters as well as transliteration. SUMMARY:JCC Community Choir/Makheylah (In-Person)
DESCRIPTION:If you like to sing and are interested in singing Jewish songs\, join the JCC Community Choir! This is a great opportunity to connect musically to the Jewish tradition. The choir is open to high schoolers\, college students\, and adults of all ages in Northern Virginia.  All singing abilities are welcome!  Our choir has something for everyone: experienced singers will receive advanced material\, singers with moderate choral or vocal background will be well-engaged\, and those who just hum a little will fit right in! \n\n\n\nOur repertoire ranges from secular to religious and includes synagogue music\, Yiddish theater\, folksongs\, and Israeli songs. We sing in various languages\, too: Hebrew\, English\, Yiddish\, Ladino\, and others. The session will include one or two short performances (tbd). Come – let’s sing! \n\n\n\nFees (include sheet music):  General Adult – $145; Active-Duty Military/Veterans – $120; Students: $90 \n\n\n\nDirector’s Bio: \n\n\n\nP’nina Plotkin McCabe has a bachelor in music from UCLA and a “Teudat Oman” (Artist Diploma) from the Rubin Academy of Music and Dance in Israel. Ms. McCabe led an adult choir at the JCC from 1990-1999 and then conducted a choir at Gesher from 2010-2019\, while her children attended school there.
