This is a great opportunity to connect musically to the Jewish tradition. DESCRIPTION:The days and weeks after you bring your little one home are often filled with so many mixed emotions. Joy\, excitement\, happiness\, worry\, uncertainty\, guilt or shame often appear at different moments. \n\n\n\nIt can be incredibly helpful to think through proactive strategies to support your mental health and wellbeing so that you aren’t trying to figure out support when you are in the weeds with things like diaper blowouts\, pumping\, lack of sleep or contact naps. \n\n\n\nAt this workshop we will discuss helpful and easy strategies to implement so that you can ensure that you are taking care of yourselves so that you can be the best parents to your sweet little one.  We will also discuss perinatal mood and anxiety disorder symptoms so that you and your partner (or support system) can be aware of any more significant concerns should they arise. \n\n\n\nThis workshop is most useful for moms that are pregnant or recently postpartum. DESCRIPTION:Join us at Oakton Community Park (2841 Hunter Mill Rd Oakton\, VA 22124) for a lesson from Oakton naturalists on invasive species. Volunteer naturalists Karin and Willow will give us a tour of the local habitat and help us identify native and invasive species. We will then work with them to clear the invasive species from this park and restore the natural habitat. Plan to be outside for about 2H\, water and light snack will be provided. DESCRIPTION:Led by P’nina Plotkin McCabe\, Choir Director. \n\n\n\nDo you like to sing? Are you interested in singing Jewish songs? If so\, join the JCC Community Choir – Makheylah! This is a great opportunity to connect musically to the Jewish tradition. The choir is open to high schoolers\, college students\, and adults of all ages in Northern Virginia.  All singing abilities are welcome!  Our choir has something for everyone; experienced singers will receive advanced material\, singers with moderate choral or vocal background will be well-engaged\, and those who just hum a little will fit right in! \n\n\n\nOur repertoire will range from secular to religious and include synagogue music\, Yiddish theater\, folksongs\, and Israeli songs. Photography by Samantha Rose Mandeles.When we think of eastern Africa today\, we usually don’t think of a concentration of Jews. But miraculously\, one such vibrant community exists! The Abayudaya\, who number about 2\,000 souls\, are concentrated in a few towns and villages in eastern Uganda and western Kenya. Devout in practice\, keeping kosher and observing Shabbat and holy days\, the Abayudaya (a word in the local language Luganda meaning “People of Judah”) have been recognized as Jews by Reform\, Reconstructionist\, Conservative and Renewal movements of Judaism. \n\n\n\nLearn more about the exhibit here.
