SUMMARY:Trip to National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) in DC (In-Person)
DESCRIPTION:*This event is currently sold out. Click the tickets link to join the waitlist.* Join us on a trip to the newly renovated National Museum of Women in the Arts downtown for a private\, docent-led tour. The topic will be “New Worlds: Women to Watch 2024.” This exhibition features works by 28 visionary artists that reimagine the past\, present alternate realities\, and inspire audiences to create different futures. \n\n\n\nWe will have time to peruse the museum’s gift shop. The café is expected to be open in late May\, but it is not guaranteed\, so we recommend having a hearty breakfast before arriving and bringing a dairy or pareve lunch to be eaten at the museum before the tour. A light snack and bottled water will be provided for the bus ride. \n\n\n\nFollowing the visit\, time-permitting\, we will head home after making a stop at the fabulous Jake’s Ice Cream in Falls Church (ice cream not included in trip fee). This scoop shop employs a staff of differently abled adults who are dedicated to serving up 28 flavors of small-batch ice cream made on site! (https://www.sweetjakesicecream.com) \n\n\n\nNote: This trip is limited to 34 participants on a first come\, first served basis. Tickets are transferable\, but not refundable. \n\n\n\nBus departs the J at 12:15pm and returns approximately 4pm.

SUMMARY:Museum Trip to see “Star Power” at the Portrait Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Join us on a trip to the National Portrait Gallery to view the traveling exhibit of Star Power: Photographs from Hollywood’s Golden Age by George Hurrell. \n\n\n\nDuring the 1930s and early 1940s\, George Hurrell (1904–1992) reigned as Hollywood’s preeminent portrait photographer. Hired by the Publicity Department at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) when he was only twenty-five\, Hurrell advanced rapidly to become the studio’s principal portraitist. With a keen eye for artful posing\, innovative lighting effects\, and skillful retouching\, he produced timeless portraits that burnished the luster of many of the “Golden Age’s” greatest stars.
