SUMMARY:Double Take Israel: Belonging & Home
DESCRIPTION:Attend one or both film screenings and discussions! \n\n\n\nPart 1: Movie: “Operation Grandma” (97 minutes)Wednesday\, August 26\, 12:00 PM-2:30 PM \n\n\n\nPart 2: Movie: “In Between”Wednesday\, September 16\, 12:00 PM- 3:30 PM \n\n\n\nHow does the place we come from shape who we are? What happens when we leave home in search of freedom\, identity\, and belonging? And how do mixed cities in Israel become spaces of both opportunity and tension? \n\n\n\nJoin us for the second event in our Double Take Israel series exploring belonging and identity in Israeli society through film and conversation. Need not have attended the first screening to enjoy this film discussion. \n\n\n\nThis screening will feature “In Between” (Drama\, 103 minutes)\, an award-winning Israeli-Palestinian film following three young Palestinian women sharing an apartment in Tel Aviv while trying to balance independence\, friendship\, tradition\, and modern life. Between nightlife\, careers\, family expectations\, and cultural pressures\, each woman struggles to define who she wants to be in a society full of contradictions. \n\n\n\nTrigger warning: This film contains themes and references to sexual violence. \n\n\n\nBefore the film\, we’ll explore:-Mixed cities and shared spaces in Israel-The Palestinian community in Tel Aviv-How Palestinian women navigate social expectations in the big city-The tension between tradition\, family\, freedom\, and identity \n\n\n\nPowerful\, emotional\, funny\, and deeply human — “In Between” offers a complex and intimate look at young women living between worlds. \n\n\n\nFree admission. RSVP required. We hope that you will support the Shlichut program and Israel engagement programs here.
