DESCRIPTION:Beginners and those with a little knowledge are welcome! We will review the Hebrew alphabet and learn the rudiments of reading. (Yiddish is phonetic and much easier than Hebrew). We will study a primary-grade Yiddish book and converse about it in Yiddish. We’ll also learn to say useful phrases and how to ask important questions. Jokes\, proverbs\, songs\, and even a few curse words\, will not be ignored! Study materials will be provided via email\, in Hebrew as well as in transliteration. Able to follow the prayers in Hebrew but wish you could read them more quickly? Want to know the rules governing pronunciation? \n\n\n\nJoin this new JCC Biblical Hebrew Reading Skills course! The classes will help you master reading the main Hebrew prayers and… \n\n\n\n\nLearn which letters and vowels are pronounced differently in Israel or Spain vs. Germany or Lithuania.\n\n\n\nDistinguish prefixes and suffixes from the root word.\n\n\n\nRecognize words without having to read each letter.\n\n\n\n\nTextbook/Materials: Prayer texts will be provided as well as available sources for additional individual study. There is no required textbook; feel free to use your own Siddur.Note: Minimum number of students to hold class: 4; Max: 12. \n\n\n\nInstructor Bio:Karyn Selko studied Biblical Hebrew in college and has taught beginning and intermediate Hebrew at both Congregation Olam Tikvah and Chabad of Reston-Herndon.
