SUMMARY:JxJ Presents: Comedic And Satirical Shorts
DESCRIPTION:Comedic and satirical short films that are as funny as they are insightful and revealing of the breadth and depth of Jewish culture. \n\n\n\nAbout the Shorts\n\n\n\nThe Anne Frank Gift Shop Dir. Mickey Rapkin | NarrativeA dark comedy about anti-Semitism that packs a vital and timely message. When a high-end design firm presents its plans to reimagine the gift shop at The Anne Frank House\, the company’s overt appeal to Generation Z sparks a debate about collective trauma\, the Holocaust\, and tote bags. Starring Ari Graynor (The Sopranos)\, this short film delivers humor and humanity. \n\n\n\nMerv Dir. Sam Roebling | NarrativeFollowing his latest romantic humiliation\, Simon is unexpectedly summoned to his grandmother’s house to meet her new boyfriend\, Merv. The man he encounters there upends his understanding of love\, loss\, and Chinese takeout. \n\n\n\nJewish Singles in the SnowDir. Josh Ben-Moshe | DocumentaryThis quirky documentary follows a group of young Australian Jewish singles as they venture to a ski retreat\, hoping to find a Jewish life partner. The film is illuminating\, fun\, and revealing of what it means to be Jewish\, looking for love\, and navigating being a young adult all at the same time. \n\n\n\nBroken ToiletsDir. Jesse Toledano | NarrativeYossi Kline is a young\, Hasidic Jewish man\, tasked with taking care of his father-in-law’s buildings in a low-income\, mostly Black outer borough of NYC. But Yossi has a secret: he loves hip-hop. During the everyday\, mundane\, and often absurd tasks that come along with property management\, he meets two tenants\, young aspiring hip-hop artists DiAndra “Dee” Jones and Kevin Randolph. Together they form the most unlikely of musical trios while they each work to figure out how to balance their passion for art. \n\n\n\nThe Peacock that Passed OverDir. Max Goldberg | DocumentaryUK Jewish Film Short Awardee. Four years ago a peacock suddenly landed and has settled ever since in the grounds of a Leeds synagogue. Whimsical and charming\, the film explores the responses of a diverse section of the Jewish Yorkshire community in England. \n\n\n\nHeritage DayDir. Lara Everly | NarrativeBrilliant satire starring Emmy Award-winning actress Rachel Bloom (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) as the mom of eight-year-old Evie who becomes obsessed with playing Holocaust after dressing up as her estranged grandmother\, a Holocaust survivor\, for “Heritage Day” at school. \n\n\n\nAbout JxJ: Presented by the Edlavitch DCJCC\, JxJ encompasses the Washington Jewish Film and Music Festivals\, alongside a year-round film and music program.
