DESCRIPTION:Led by P’nina Plotkin McCabe\, Choir Director. \n\n\n\nDo you like to sing? Are you interested in singing Jewish songs? If so\, join the JCC Community Choir – Makheylah! This is a great opportunity to connect musically to the Jewish tradition. The choir is open to high schoolers\, college students\, and adults of all ages in Northern Virginia.  All singing abilities are welcome!  Our choir has something for everyone; experienced singers will receive advanced material\, singers with moderate choral or vocal background will be well-engaged\, and those who just hum a little will fit right in! \n\n\n\nOur repertoire will range from secular to religious and include synagogue music\, Yiddish theater\, folksongs\, and Israeli songs. DESCRIPTION:Mah Jongg is a popular game of skill and luck usually played by 4 people at a time. All one needs to be a successful player is the current year National Mah Jongg League card (2024)\, access to a Mah Jongg set\, and the willingness to learn and practice. In this course\, students will take four 2.5-hour lessons for a total of 10 hours of instruction. You will learn how to read the Mah Jongg card and identify the different tiles\, the rules of American Mah Jongg\, and the elements of play. 2024 cards can be ordered through the instructor or the NMJL for $15. DESCRIPTION:Every day\, blood donors help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims\, heart surgery and organ transplant patients\, and those battling cancer. In fact\, every two seconds\, someone in the U.S. needs blood. It is likely that you or someone you know will need a blood transfusion in your lifetime.  \n\n\n\nDue to recent drastic shortfalls of donations over the last several weeks\, donors of all blood types are critically needed\, especially those with type O blood. \n\n\n\nThe blood donation process from the time you arrive until the time you leave takes about an hour. The donation itself is only about 8-10 minutes on average. In order to qualify for whole blood donation\, you must be in good health and feeling well\, at least 16 years of age (with signed parental consent) and weigh at least 110 lbs. Additional eligibility criteria apply\, including certain medications\, medical conditions\, travel to certain countries\, and personal history.  \n\n\n\nPre-registered participants only. Over 10 classes\, you will learn important vocabulary\, grammar\, and common phrases and sentences/questions using a variety of resources. Each student must purchase the textbook: Hebrew from Scratch Part 1 (available new on Amazon). The book uses quotations from all eras of Hebrew writing and has a Hebrew-English Dictionary which includes all vocabulary and grammatical terminology.
