SUMMARY:Pozez JCC & American Red Cross Blood Drive
DESCRIPTION:Every day\, blood donors help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims\, heart surgery and organ transplant patients\, and those battling cancer. In fact\, every two seconds\, someone in the U.S. needs blood. It is likely that you or someone you know will need a blood transfusion in your lifetime. \n\n\n\nDue to recent drastic shortfalls of donations over the last several weeks\, donors of all blood types are critically needed\, especially those with type O blood. \n\n\n\nThe blood donation process from the time you arrive until the time you leave takes about an hour. The donation itself is only about 8-10 minutes on average. In order to qualify for whole blood donation\, you must be in good health and feeling well\, at least 16 years of age (with signed parental consent) and weigh at least 110 lbs. Additional eligibility criteria apply\, including certain medications\, medical conditions\, travel to certain countries\, and personal history.  \n\n\n\nPre-registered participants only. No walk-ins. Blood drive will be located in the auditorium. \n\n\n\nSign up here.

SUMMARY:"Make A Circle" Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:A film by Jen Bradwell and Todd Boekelheide. Presented by Pozez JCC’s ECLC and the NVAEYC\, an affiliate of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). \n\n\n\n6:30pm: Doors open7:00pm: Film ScreeningDuring NAEYC’s Week of the Young Child\, April 5-11\, 2025\, NVAEYC and Pozez JCC’s ECLC will co-sponsor MAKE A CIRCLE\, a film that confronts a broken child care system where\, “Parents can’t afford to pay\, and teachers can’t afford to stay.” \n\n\n\nThe film captures the unfolding stories of Patricia\, a leader of a new childcare union\, as she advocates on behalf of a largely immigrant workforce. Charlotte\, who tirelessly lifts up the low-income families in her care; and Anne\, the director of a large preschool\, who finds novel ways to support her teachers when jobs at McDonald’s are offering higher pay. \n\n\n\nWeaving together the magic they create in the classroom\, the struggles they endure at home\, and their tireless activism for their profession\, MAKE A CIRCLE is a moving portrait of life as an Early Childhood Educator and a promising blueprint for change.

SUMMARY:Laura H. Kahn\, Author "One Health and the Politics of COVID-19"
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Pozez JCC’s Distinguished Speaker Series and J-Talks \n\n\n\nFeaturing Dr. Laura H. Kahn\, physician\, policy researcher\, educator\, and author; interviewed by Pozez JCC member Jane Holmquist. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a conversation about the politics of COVID-19 as Dr. Kahn unpacks the mysteries of its origins to impart important lessons for future outbreaks. In her timely book\, leading public health expert Laura H. Kahn uses the comprehensive “One Health” approach\, which recognizes the interconnected links among the health of humans\, animals\, plants\, and the environment\, to investigate the COVID-19 pandemic. Kahn explores how the wild animal trade\, wet markets\, and camel industry contributed to the spread of earlier coronaviruses such as SARS-CoV-1 and MERS. The book also explores the biosafety\, biosecurity\, and bioethics implications of gain-of-function research on pandemic potential pathogens. Dr. Kahn will help us better understand the history\, science\, and geopolitics of the COVID-19 pandemic. There will be time for a Q&A\, book sale\, and signing.
