SUMMARY:Women of Valor: Commander Karni’s Journey
DESCRIPTION:Strength in the Tank\, Inspiration in Life \n\n\n\nJoin us for a powerful afternoon with Commander Karni\, who led the Israel Defense Forces’ all-female tank crew during the defense of a kibbutz on October 7\, 2023. Karni will share her journey to becoming a tank commander\, her harrowing experiences that day\, and the lessons she has carried forward. This uplifting conversation highlights resilience\, leadership\, and the strength of Jewish women. \n\n\n\nCommander Karni is a trailblazer in the Israel Defense Forces\, where she became one of the first women to command a tank unit. On October 7th\, her all-female crew was called into action to defend a kibbutz under siege by Hamas terrorists. Over 17 hours of intense combat\, her crew neutralized dozens of attackers\, saving countless lives. Karni’s courage and leadership under fire demonstrated the critical role of women in Israel’s defense. Her story is not only one of military bravery but also of perseverance\, resilience\, and hope. Today\, Karni continues to share her experiences\, inspiring others with the lessons she learned on and off the battlefield. She looks toward the future with a vision of service\, strength\, and building bridges for the Jewish people. \n\n\n\nThis event is free. RSVP required. SUMMARY:JxJ Best of Fest - "The True Story of Tamara De Lempicka & the Art of Survival"
DESCRIPTION:The Pozez JCC\, in partnership with Edlavitch DCJCC\, is thrilled to present JxJ BEST OF FEST: Monthly Film Screenings at Cinema Arts Theatre in Fairfax! \n\n\n\nEnjoy 5 feature length and 6 short Jewish or Israeli films over a 6-month period here in our area! \n\n\n\n“The True Story of Tamara De Lempicka & the Art of Survival”Dir. Julie Rubio | 2024 | United States | 96 min.All women’s groups (Sisterhoods\, NCJW\, Hadassah\, Brandeis Women\, book clubs\, etc.) are invited to attend this matinee screening about an infamous Jewish female painter in Paris in the 1920s. \n\n\n\nA visually stunning and sweeping documentary that traces the life and survival of the renowned painter through her powerful paintings – from her rise to international stardom in 1920s Paris\, to her move to the United States in 1940\, fleeing the rise of fascism\, and her revival in the current art market. \n\n\n\nTamara de Lempicka was the preeminent Art Deco painter\, known for her high-gloss sensual nudes and portraits of high society during the Jazz Age. She was marginalized and gained notoriety for her romantic liaisons with her models and her indulgent\, decadent lifestyle\, but she was so much more. The film follows this remarkable émigrée as she reinvents herself multiple times\, looking behind the veneer of the publicity she generated for herself and examining the bisexual Jewish artist who embodied talent\, resilience\, passion\, and the relentless pursuit of artistic freedom. Told through her never-before-seen 8mm home movies and groundbreaking newly discovered birth and baptism certificates\, our film reveals her true name\, heritage\, and identity for the first time and will change art history. \n\n\n\nTickets: $15Tickets may be purchased at the Cinema Arts Box Office or online.
